Western Caribbean Cruise

We anchored around nine am this morning. Rob and the rest went ashore early while Tom, Doug and I ate a late breakfast then met Ian to head out to the dive shop for our afternoon dives. The four of us took the tender into town and walked the 8 blocks to the shop. They were very friendly and after filling out all the paperwork, we met the dive master, Octavio. The We discussed our dive histories, and what we were looking to see. He gave us the option of going to a reef with many turtles, or to a reek that might have Bull Sharks on it. Of course we picked the sharks.

The dive was to 95 feet and had many eels to see almost immediately. About 6 minutes into the dive, Octavio looked out to the seaward side of the reef and put his raised hand to his head mimicking a fin. This was the sign we were waiting for. It meant he had seen a shark. Looking out into the blue, we saw a 7 foot Bull swimming against the current seemingly unaware of us. We watched as he swam out into the distance and disappeared. We were to see him several times since he followed our group all the way through the dive. It was quite exciting to be stalked by a Bull Shark. Of course he was just curious and never showed any aggressive behavior toward us.

Rob and the rest of our group strolled through town then made their way to the beach. Rob actually went into the water for awhile.

The town is quite nice and better and larger than the much more heavily traveled San Miguel in Cozumel. The funny thing is Rob  will be coming right back here tomorrow since they are going to Tulum.

Tonight was our last formal evening so it was lobster for dinner followed by the Baked Alaska Parade. Always entertaining and a little sad in that it reminds us that the cruise is almost over. After dinner we had the last show by the Celebrity Singers and Dancers. After the show, Rob and I went to bed and the rest returned to the main restaurant for the “Buffet Magnifique”. This huge buffet shows all the culinary skills of the ships chefs. All the food made to look like flowers, or animals, it is amazing what they can do.

Well, tomorrow Tom an I will be diving Cozumel. I told him that this should be the highlight of all our dives on this trip. Hopefully I haven’t lied to him. Photo’s From Playa Del Carmen
